Civic 8, miles On Wednesday, June 11, I was driving from Mar vista, ca to san leandro, ca with my 4 year old son and 20 year old sister in law. We were on the w driving in the far left lane at 65mph at am when we heard an explosion in the rear of the car. When we inspected the car, the right rear tire was blown through. The side walls were intact, but the whole top part of the tire was not connected to the side wall.
My car is a Honda Civic coupe ex and it had about miles. I purchased the car in July The crash caused significant damage to the front left side of my car. The car is now at a body shop and is being repaired in san leandro, ca. We have the defective tire. After doing more research I found that Honda had issued a service bulletin about uneven or rapid tire wear. Tsb on February 8, I did not receive notification of this serious defect because Honda is not required to notify consumers regarding tsbs.
This defect is serious and affects nearly all Honda Civics. This tsb needs to become a recall. All owners of Honda Civics need to be made aware of this life threatening defect.
I understand that tires should be checked regularly, and many consumers do, however, my tires did not give me any warning of uneven wearing. Actually, it would be hard to notice since my Civic coupe ex is not quite on the road and you can feel any little bump in the road.
I was told that this was normal because of the stiff suspension. Overall, I seriously hope that this is addressed quickly. It would be unfortunate that a class action suit or the death of innocent consumers prompt Honda to make this tsb notice a recall notice.
Honda Vehicles Have Been Assigned 4,498 TSBs
These uneven tire problems can quickly turn into braking issues and also lead to reports of difficult to control vibrations, giving some drivers fits when traveling at highway speeds. The Internet has been abuzz with complaints about uneven and rapidly wearing tires on the Civic. Honda finally agreed to a class-action settlement while simultaneously refusing to acknowledge the problem exists at all. Why the Tires Are Wearing Out So Fast Civic owners are rallying together to raise awareness about the defectively short Rear-Upper Control Arms that are causing their tires to wear rapidly and unevenly. The new control arms take out.
2008 Honda Civic
Civic 4-cyl 40, miles Our Honda Civic ex 4dr began to experience mild shaking during driving with an increased shake the faster we drove. This resulted in almost total loss of control of the vehicle during slight slippery conditions on the highway during the winter because of a fishtailing effect that was being induced. The result is because of rear control arms on this vehicle being manufactured too small causing a negative camber of the rear wheels and causing premature and uneven tire wear of the inner half of the tires. This has been an issue for over 2 years now increasing over time and was never recalled by Honda but simply issued to dealerships under service bulletin which was never carried out during regular service of the vehicle at the dealership. Only now when I complained of a shake and further research by myself have they decided to do anything about it. I have winter and summer tires now that have uneven wear on them and have experienced headache-inducing shakes at highway speeds. At the present moment Honda is repairing these rear control arms but I have to flip the bill for labor, an alignment, and 2 new sets of tires which are said to be covered under the service bulletin by Honda.
