If anything, it feels like these novels are doing their damnest to prove just how utterly annoying, frustrating, not to mention boring real-life criminal investigations can be. We have this fancy pants windmill building company, famous for doing more than its fair share in the fight against global warming. Unfortunately for them, this scorned ex-employee is hell bent on opposing their latest project, solely to get back at them for firing him. However, once our trusty heroes start digging deeper, it turns out that the company may indeed be wrapped up in some shady business, and the ex-employee is not exactly clean as a whistle either.
So, rotten stuff all around Denmark the Taunus. The idea of this installment was to show just how corrupt the world of climate change combat can be, with lots of fake reporting meant to line the pockets of various companies and political figures. So imagine poor jet-lagged Pia, fresh off the plane from China, having to handle it all by her lonesome But never mind all that: the important thing is to paint poor Pia Kirchhoff in the role of the long suffering detective, who still manages to solve every case, based on intuition alone!
I mean seriously?! The pretty blonde detective, with the amazing 6th sense, summarily dismisses the nondescript "grey mouse"? Plus all that moaning and moping about how close Pia and Bodenstein truly were, just confused me.
When and where did this happen?! Or anyone else, for that matter. To be honest, even I as a reader, am in the dark about the events from her holiday.
Did she get married to Christoph? Or maybe just engaged? All in a all: this novel was such a drag to get through!
